ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A 22-year-old Anchorage woman has been arrested in a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian.
Anchorage police on Tuesday announced the arrest of Caitlin Forbes on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident without assisting the injured.
Police said the investigation continues and other charges are likely.
Police since Saturday night had been looking for the driver of a car that struck and killed Brian Ballot, 49, on Muldoon Road and Fifth Avenue, a busy intersection on the city’s east side.
Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a small, light-color sport utility vehicle with bicycle-spoke rims.
However, investigators through evidence at the scene determined the vehicle involved likely was a compact car with accessorized, after-market headlights.
Police circulated a photo of a headlight found at the scene and asked witnesses to watch for a 2003-2005 Dodge Neon that had damage to the left headlight.
Police received an anonymous tip Monday that a car matching the description was parked outside a home in east Anchorage. Police determined the car belonged to Forbes.
As police impounded the car, an investigator learned she was at her parents’ home in south Anchorage. She was arrested there but was no longer in custody Tuesday morning.
Online court documents do not list her attorney and she could not be immediately reached by phone.
