BOSTON (AP) - Gov. Charlie Baker has nominated associate appeals court justice Mark Green to serve as the chief justice of the state’s second-highest court.
If confirmed by the Governor’s Council, Green would replace Scott Kafker, the former chief justice of the appeals court who was elevated by Baker to the Supreme Judicial Court earlier this year.
The Republican governor cited Green’s 35 years of professional legal experience and his “thoughtful, well-reasoned appellate decisions” in announcing the nomination on Tuesday.
The 1982 Harvard Law School graduate was named to the state’s Land Court in 1997 by then-Republican Gov. William Weld, and in 2001 was appointed to the appeals court by acting Republican Gov. Jane Swift.
Green’s wife, Karen Green, is a Superior Court judge.
