EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - An Evansville woman has been sentenced to 45 years in prison after pleading guilty to fatally shooting her boyfriend.

Twenty-six-year-old Chauna Reed said during Monday’s hearing in Vanderburgh County that she did not recall shooting 27-year-old Stedman Baird in October 2016 in the Evansville apartment they shared.

Reed told the judge she had loved her late boyfriend and doesn’t know what happened.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports that Reed agreed to plead guilty after the judge rejected her attorney’s request to have her police statements suppressed, arguing that she was intoxicated at the time.

Reed had said her drug use prior to her police interview had impaired her memory. But an Evansville police officer had testified that Reed spoke coherently, understood her rights and did not appear impaired.
