SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A former Utah teacher has been sentenced to three years to life in prison for sexually abuse a 16-year-old girl.

Farmington police Chief Wayne Hansen says the teen was not a student at the high school and had met Tate through an acquaintance.

Tate was found guilty of one count of attempted forcible sodomy and attempted object rape, and one count of forcible sexual abuse and was sentenced to jail on Monday.

According to charging documents, the crimes took place between Aug. 1 and Sept. 1, 2016.
