PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo says she’s open to asking a federal judge to appoint a special master to oversee the state’s troubled benefits system that has been plagued with problems since opening last year.
Speaking on WPRO-AM on Thursday, Raimondo was asked whether she supports appointing a special master, an idea supported by the state chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union.
The Democratic governor replied that it is an “intolerable situation” and Deloitte, the contractor responsible for the RI Bridges system, needs to be held accountable.
In the latest problem to come to light, Deloitte alerted the state last week it had found several thousand unprocessed applications.
Deloitte this year has credited the state $85 million.
The ACLU sued the state over the problems. A conference is scheduled Nov. 2.
