VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - A charity founded by Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson has teamed up with the nation’s second largest teachers’ union to help bring clean water to storm-ravaged Puerto Rico.

The Virginia Beach-based Operation Blessing International said in a statement this week that it’s working with the American Federation of Teachers to bring water filtration systems to the island.

Other groups involved in the effort include the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees and the Hispanic Federation.

The politically diverse group of organizations has named the effort Operation Agua. It aims to crowdsource contributions for 100,000 individual water-filtration systems and 50 large-capacity clean-water devices.

For instance, the group said a $30 contribution provides a purifier that requires no electricity and generates more than 10 gallons of safe water daily.
