BEND, Ore. (AP) - An airport in central Oregon hasn’t repaid the state nearly $400,000 in grant funding that the state says was misused.

The Bulletin reports the state asked the Sisters Eagle Airport to repay the transportation grant funding nearly seven months ago after the state Department of Transportation found that some of the grant money was paid to the airport owner, managers and two companies headed by airport owner Benny Benson. The department asked Benson to repay the funds by April after they sent their findings to him in March.

The department entered into the grant agreement with the airport in 2015. It provided $733,259 to be used only for improvements to the airport.

Negotiations between the airport and the department are ongoing, and officials from both sides declined to comment.
