BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont judge has delayed the start of the trial for a man charged in a 2015 shooting death in downtown Burlington that followed a bar dispute.
The judge Tuesday ordered that a new jury be chosen as the trial of 26-year-old Chavis Murphy, of Burlington, was set to begin.
Murphy has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the death of 28-year-old Obafemi Adedapo, of New York. Authorities said Adedapo was shot on a city block after a bar dispute over a woman.
Court papers say Murphy was arrested days later in West Springfield, Massachusetts. He’s been jailed since then.
The Burlington Free Press reports Judge Dennis Pearson delayed the trial after he asked the jurors if they had learned anything about the case or read any media reports.
