Kid Rock announced Tuesday that he is not running for U.S. Senate, ending months of speculation.
“F—- no, I’m not running for Senate. Are you kidding me?” the singer said on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM show, the Detroit Free Press reported.
“Who couldn’t figure that out?” he asked. “I’m releasing a new album. I’m going on tour, too. Are you f——— s———- me?”
Kid Rock, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, first said in July that he was exploring the possibility of running as a Republican in Michigan for Democrat Debbie Stabenow’s U.S. Senate seat. Though he held off on officially announcing his candidacy, he fueled speculation by launching a “Kid Rock for Senate” website and selling hats, shirts and yard signs with the “Kid Rock ’18” logo.
“It’s the worst advice I ever gave myself, but it’s been the most creative thing I’ve ever done,” he said of the ruse Tuesday. “And I’ve gotten to see everyone’s true colors.”
Kid Rock’s new album, “Sweet Southern Sugar,” will be released Nov. 3, Mr. Stern said at the start of the wide-ranging interview, the Free Press reported.
