MASHPEE, Mass. (AP) - Two officials with the Department of Public Works in a Massachusetts town are set to return to their jobs after they were suspended for workplace misconduct.

The Cape Cod Times reports Michael Finlayson and Wayne Mackin, both foremen with the Mashpee DPW, were suspended in September following a two-month investigation.

Documents released by the town manager show the investigation was launched after Mackin complained to the department in May alleging Finlayson slept on duty, smoked in prohibited places and took the town truck for personal use.

Town Manager Rodney Collins says he suspended Finlayson for 30 days for “unsatisfactory performance and neglect of duties.”

Collins says Mackin was suspended for two weeks after he created audio recordings without consent of both parties to support his complaints to the department.
