RACELAND, Ky. (AP) - A city attorney in Kentucky says a conflict with the city council led to his resignation.
The Daily Independent reports James Lyon Jr. submitted his resignation letter on Friday, after 25 years of serving as Raceland’s city attorney.
The council voted last week to abolish several city jobs. Lyon advised against the action, saying it violated the collective bargaining agreement with the union. The council didn’t take his advice to resend the action at Thursday’s special meeting, and voted to hire a separate counsel, which Lyon says created “an unworkable situation.”
Raceland Mayor Mike Wilson said he wasn’t surprised by the resignation, but had hoped Lyon wouldn’t follow through.
Wilson will consult with the Kentucky League of Cities on how to handle the situation until a new attorney is found.
