Bowe Bergdahl suggests Taliban treated him better than U.S.

OPINION:

Bowe Bergdahl, the Army deserter who left his base in Afghanistan to hang instead with Taliban members — for five years — suggested he received better treatment from his captors than the United States.

What? Ship him back to the Taliban then. Apparently, they’re besties now.

“At least the Taliban were honest enough to say, ’I’m the guy who’s gonna cut your throat,’ ” Bergdahl said, in an interview with The Sunday Times of London reported by the New York Post.

But in the United States?

The United States put Bergdahl on administrative duties while awaiting his desertion trial. And that, according to Bergdahl, is just plain improper and outrageous.

Here are his thoughts: “Here [in U.S.], it could be the guy I pass in the corridor who’s going to sign the paper that sends me away for life. … We may as well go back to kangaroo courts and lynch mobs.”

Wow. That — even though Bergdahl said he’d been kept captive by Taliban members in a steel cage and tortured.

Bergdahl pleaded guilty to desertion and misbehavior last week. He’s due to be sentenced this week, and could face life in prison. And with talk like that — it doesn’t look like leniency is coming his way.
