MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Labor officials say Vermont’s unemployment rate dropped one-tenth of one percentage point to 2.9 percent in September, the lowest in over a decade.

That compares to a national rate of 4.2 percent last month.

Vermont Department of Labor Commissioner Lindsay Kurrle says the last time the state’s unemployment rate was below 3 percent was in December 2000.

She says despite the low rate, employers are looking for workers at all levels.

The jobless rate for Vermont’s 17 labor market areas ranged from 2.3 percent in White River Junction to 4.3 percent in Bennington and Derby.
