SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - State officials say Utah’s unemployment rate dropped slightly last month to 3.4 percent.

Utah’s Department of Workforce Services on Friday announced the state’s jobless rate had dropped one-tenth of a percentage point in September.

Utah Workforce Services chief economist Carrie Mayne says there were about 53,800 people out of work but looking for jobs last month.

The national unemployment rate fell slightly as well, dropping two-tenths of a percentage point to 4.2 percent.
