CBS has fired a top legal executive who said she felt no sympathy for the victims of the Las Vegas shooting because “country music fans often are republican gun toters.”
“This individual, who was with us for approximately one year, violated the standards of our company and is no longer an employee of CBS,” the network said in a statement to Fox News. “Her views as expressed on social media aera deeply unacceptable to all of us at CBS. Our hearts go out to the victims in Las Vegas and their families.”
Hayley Geftman-Gold, the network’s former vice president and senior counsel, made the incendiary comment on Facebook shortly after the shooting late Sunday night.
“If they wouldn’t do anything when children were murdered I have no hope that the Repugs will ever do the right thing,” she said in the since-deleted message, in an apparent reference to the Sandy Hook massacre. “I’m actually not even sympathetic bc country music fans often are republican gun toters.”
The comment was captured and first reported by the Daily Caller.
Stephen Paddock, 64, of Mesquite, Nev., opened fire on a crowd of country music concert-goers from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, killing 58 and injuring 515.
