WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - The Warwick school system and the teachers’ union have reached a tentative contract following years of sometimes contentious negotiations.
Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian says the sides came to a deal early Thursday morning.
Details were not immediately released. Teachers have been working without a contract since 2015. Among the sticking points have been class sizes, pay raises, workloads and sick time.
Avedisian says the necessary documentation to execute the tentative agreement will be processed over the next few days.
The agreement comes after a two-week period when five city schools were closed for a day each because so many teachers called in sick during what the school district said were organized “sick-outs”
The union said there was no official union action.
