Washington Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom on Monday was named the NHL’s “Third Star” of the week, the league announced.
Backstrom, who has played well on a new line with T.J. Oshie and Andre Burakovsky, had three goals and six assists for nine points during four games last week.
He has 11 points (three goals, eight assists) in six games.
The Capitals are 3-2-1 to start the season and return Tuesday against the Toronto Maple Leafs at 7 p.m. at Capital One Arena.
