PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island man who admitted to shooting another man over a dispute about marijuana has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.
The Providence Journal reports that 30-year-old Robert Fonseca, of East Providence, was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to a count of assault with a dangerous weapon, discharge of a firearm while committing a crime of violence and possession a firearm without a license in the shooting of Scott Oliveira, of Barrington.
Prosecutors say police arrested Fonseca in February. Prosecutors say the dispute stemmed from Oliveira’s complaints about marijuana Fonseca had sold to him. Police say Fonseca drove to Oliveira’s home in Barrington and fired at the victim, striking him once in the stomach.
Fonseca also was sentenced to serve 20 years’ probation upon his release.
