JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The Mississippi House of Representatives has gained a new member.

Republican Missy McGee of Hattiesburg took the oath of office Friday to represent District 102 in Forrest and Lamar counties.

She won an Oct. 3 special election to succeed former Rep. Toby Barker, who left the House to become mayor of Hattiesburg. McGee will serve the rest of the term that expires in January 2020.

Barker served in the House as a Republican but ran for mayor as an independent.

McGee serves on the Southern Miss Athletic Foundation board of directors. She is also a member of Leadership Pinebelt, the Hattiesburg Junior Auxiliary and the Forrest General Hospital Foundation.
