RENO, Nev. (AP) - A documented gang member from Stockton, California has been sentenced to up to 19 years in a Nevada prison after he was convicted of drug-trafficking charges in Reno.
The Washoe County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday 30-year-old Jeffry Taylor must serve a minimum of 5.5 years before he’s eligible for parole.
Prosecutors say Taylor was a member of the Northside Gangster Crips with six prior felony convictions. They say the investigation that led to his arrest was prompted by a spike in violence and drug activity in a Reno neighborhood that was believed to be connected to the Stockton area.
Police say he had 23 grams of heroin hidden in a pocket sewn into his underwear when he was stopped for a traffic violation on the edge of downtown near Wells Avenue and 6th Street on Aug. 31, 2015.
