CAMRIDGE, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts woman has begun a campaign to covertly plant tulip bulbs around Boston.

Amy Sterling tells the Boston Globe her “Boston Tulip Takeover” began when she and her husband decided in a moment of spontaneity to plant leftover bulbs from a home gardening project around their Cambridge neighborhood.

Sterling says she posted what she had done on social media and began getting requests to organize something bigger.

Sterling has started an online signup sheet for those interested in becoming part of the guerrilla gardening campaign.

She says she’s collected hundreds of bulbs for the effort. She plans to be at a local transit stop on Saturday handing them out for people to plant in random spots around the city.

She says it’s a way to spread some cheer.
