MILWAUKEE (AP) - Gov. Scott Walker is considering five finalists for Milwaukee County sheriff after David Clarke left to work for a political action committee that supports President Donald Trump.

The governor’s office on Tuesday released the names of the finalists selected by a panel of law enforcement officials. The finalists include Earnell Lucas, a former Milwaukee police captain who oversaw security for the 2009 Major League Baseball All-Star Game.

The interim sheriff, Richard Schmidt, is also a finalist. Walker is also considering Alfonso Morales, a Milwaukee police captain, and Carianne Yerkes, who is Milwaukee police assistant chief.

Dr. Kenneth Harris of Wisconsin Concordia University is the fifth finalist.

The governor’s office says Walker will interview the candidates in the coming weeks.
