CHICAGO — The start of Tuesday’s Game 4 of the National league Division Series between the Washington Nationals and Chicago Cubs is delayed.
More information is expected to be delivered around 4:30 p.m. Central, 5:30 p.m. Eastern.
Blustery, gray conditions prevailed in Chicago when the announcement was made. Tuesday night is forecasted to be filled with rain.
In the postseason, if a game is started one day, then postponed, the full nine innings will be continued when the game resumes. It does not start over.
That is a situation most parties would prefer to avoid. If the teams play three innings Tuesday, for instance, that would burn both starting pitchers.
If the game is postponed, the Nationals will consider pitching Stephen Strasburg in Game 4 instead of Tanner Roark. Strasburg was dominant in Game 1. Chicago would stick with Jake Arrieta, if Game 4 is not played Tuesday.
More to come.
