CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP) - The longtime superintendent of Chesapeake schools has announced that he will retire at the end of the school year.
James Roberts is in his eighth year as superintendent. He recently turned 70.
Roberts started his career in 1969 as a social studies teacher in Portsmouth’s I.C. Norcom High School. He later worked as an assistant principal at Manor High School, and has worked in various central office positions.
Roberts came to Chesapeake in 1995 as budget director and became an assistant superintendent in 2004. The school board chose him as superintendent in 2010.
