SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Some Salt Lake City residents claim a nonemergency dispatch line city officials urge residents to call to report concerns regarding the homeless won’t take reports over the phone.
Liberty Wells residents voiced their concerns Tuesday to Mayor Jackie Biskupski and other city officials Wednesday night at a community forum.
Biskupski promised the audience of about 80 people immediate action to find out why the report line was turning away callers.
Biskupski and Police Chief Mike Brown listened as other residents shared similar stories of frustrations since Operation Rio Grande began, with many complaining about a perceived lack of police presence and responsiveness in the area.
Operation Rio Grande is a plan, which began in August, to restore safety in the Rio Grande District of Salt Lake City.
