A woman who pleaded guilty to tossing a cup of urine at a D.C. Metro bus driver will spend 4 months in jail and be banned for the next few years from riding the X2 bus route, NBC Washington reported Thursday.

Opal Brown, 38, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge in the August incident in D.C. Superior Court on Sept. 1. Should Ms. Brown ride the X2 bus line during her 3-year probation term, she will be subject to arrest, according to NBC Washington.

For her part, Brown has said she tossed the urine at the bus driver for what she thought was a sarcastically delivered greeting of “Have a nice day.”

“She could have been more courteous,” Brown said, NBC Washington reported.

Subsequent drug tests performed on Brown suggest she was high on PCP at the time of the assault, the report said.

For her part, the sentencing judge Thursday expressed regret she could not give the remorseless perpetrator more time behind bars, telling Brown from the bench, “you just don’t get it,” NBC Washington said.

As WTOP Radio reported in October, Brown’s incident is just one of a growing number of assaults on Metro’s bus drivers that has prompted the agency to ask for help in the form of stiffer criminal penalties and possible technical upgrades to better shield drivers from passengers.

As NBC Washington reported on Oct. 4, the X2 line, which begins in Anacostia and terminates downtown north of Lafayette Park, has been particularly perilous for drivers.

“In the past 36 hours, a knife-wielding man threatened to kill one driver and a passenger threw a can of fuel at another driver. Both drivers were on the X2 line,” the news station said at the time.
