PLAINFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Authorities say a suburban Chicago student has been charged after posting a threat on Twitter to shoot up Plainfield Central High School.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the student is charged with felony disorderly conduct and was taken into custody for a hearing. Plainfield police say they were notified of the online threat about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. They say it was posted on Twitter and circulated on Snapchat. Police say officers identified the juvenile suspect who admitted posting the threat to avoid going to school.
Police say the student didn’t have any weapons and took no further steps to carry out the threat.
Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 says the suspect is a student at the school. The district said classes would be conducted normally Thursday.
