WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Police officers in Delaware’s largest city will see pay increases under a new four-year labor agreement but will also contribute more for their health care coverage.
Members of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 1 ratified the agreement Tuesday night. It must still be approved by Wilmington’s city council.
Under the agreement, officers will receive pay raises of 2 percent in fiscal years 2018, 2019 and 2020. Starting pay will increase effective July 1 to $51,445.
The agreement also reduces the number of days an officer can schedule to be off, which officials say will mean more officers on each shift.
The FOP also agreed that its members would pay up to 12 percent of the city’s annual premium paid for police officers, versus the current average of 4.9 percent.
