PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Central Maine Power announced that it’d have power restored to virtually all customers by Saturday evening. But that’s small consolation for 5,000 homes and businesses that are still in the dark on Monday.
The storm a week ago cut power to nearly 500,000 customers at in Maine, and 404,000 of those homes and businesses were in the Central Maine Power territory. The outages peaked early on Oct. 30 and hundreds of crews have been at work restoring the electrical grid ever since.
CMP said work slowed as workers dealt with lots of smaller outages affecting fewer customers.
CMP said about 5,000 customers were still without power Monday afternoon, and some of those were seasonal camps that are unoccupied. Emera Maine was down to 250 outages.
