KINGS BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Sheriff’s deputies say a long history of conflict between a motel manager and a tenant preceded a murder-suicide at Lake Tahoe where the manager shot a Kings Beach woman then turned the gun on himself.

The Placer County sheriff’s office identified the woman killed Saturday as 34-year-old Isabelle Gallon. The manager of the Northwood Pines on Tahoe’s north shore was 64-year-old Scott Kotter of Kings Beach.

The sheriff’s office said Tuesday a preliminary investigation indicates there were no previous calls from either to the sheriff’s office, but “there appears to be a long history of verbal altercations.”

The sheriff says Kotter showed up at the woman’s long-term rental room and they exchanged “heated words” before he pulled a gun and shot her.

Kotter fired at Gallo’s boyfriend as he escaped through a bathroom window, but missed, then killed himself.
