Former New York Rep. Anthony Weiner reported to a Massachusetts prison Monday to begin serving his time for texting sexual messages to a minor, The Associated Press reported.
Weiner is sentenced to 21 months after pleading guilty to the transfer of obscene materials to a minor. He will also pay a $10,000 fine after his release and is mandated to take part in treatment and online supervision. He’ll serve his time at the Federal Medical Center Devens, according to the report. The same facility housed Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the Boston Marathon bomber.
Huma Abedin, Weiner’s estranged spouse, is a longtime aide to former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. The criminal investigation into Weiner interfered with Mrs. Clinton’s own FBI probe into her emails and use of a private server while she was secretary of state.
The bureau announced in late October of last year that they were reopening Mrs. Clinton’s case after finding emails between her and Ms. Abedin on Weiner’s computer in the course of investigating him. No changes were made in the FBI’s determination that no charges should be filed against Mrs. Clinton.
