JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi credit union is expanding into Alabama.
Hope Federal Credit Union of Jackson merged Oct. 31 with Tri-Rivers Federal Credit Union of Montgomery.
The Mississippi institution, part of a larger organization that seeks to aid poor people and communities, now has $247 million in assets, after acquiring Tri-Rivers $13.9 million in assets.
Tri-Rivers was founded as Montgomery Teachers Credit Union.
It’s the third acquisition for Hope this year, having earlier took over the $3.8 million Michoud (MEE’-shoo) Credit Union in New Orleans and the $7 million B&W Mississippi Employees Federal Credit Union in West Point, Mississippi.
Hope now has 29 offices serving 40,000 households in Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana and Tennessee.
