SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (AP) - Jared Mohamed had a career-high 194 yards rushing with two TD runs and Cal Poly got its first victory of the season 35-28 while keeping Portland State winless on Saturday night.
The Mustangs (1-8, 1-5 Big Sky) capped the scoring on Reagan Enger’s punch-in run with 12:35 left. The Cal Poly defense then held the Vikings (0-9, 0-6) to punts on the next two possessions and Mark Reza’s interception ended Portland State’s final drive with 48 seconds left.
Chuby Dunu had a career-best 74 yards and the first two touchdown runs of his career and Broc Mortensen added a career-high 83 yards on the ground for Cal Poly.
After a 21-all tie at halftime, Cal Poly took its first lead of the game at 28-21 on the opening possession of the third quarter. Portland State answered on its ensuing drive to tie it.
Davis Alexander went 30 of 51 for 409 yards, a touchdown and an interception in his debut as a starter for Portland State. Trent Riley had 12 catches for 135 yards and two touchdowns and Darnell Adams added 157 yards receiving.
The Vikings took the lead on all three touchdowns they scored in the first half.
