NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Nick Rice kicked a pair of field goals for the only points in the game as Old Dominion shut out Charlotte 6-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Rice hit a 40-yarder late in the first quarter and his second field goal from 30 yards for a 6-0 lead with 5:03 left in the third. It was enough as the Monarchs (3-6, 1-4 Conference USA) controlled the ball for 39:04, outgained Charlotte 326-231, and held the 49ers (1-8, 1-4) to just eight first downs.

Steven Williams threw for 153 yards and Ray Lawry ran for 98 yards on 25 carries.

Hasaan Klugh brought Charlotte into field goal range just before the break only to have kicker Nigel Macauley miss the 48-yard attempt. The 49ers did not threaten in the second half.

Klugh finished with 62 yards passing for Charlotte. Benny LeMay rushed for 68 yards on 12 carries.
