OPINION:
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has flipped a mental switch and, instead of defending fellow congressional member John Conyers on his sexual misconduct charges, says he should resign.
Poor Pelosi. That must have been painful to finally say.
Her flip-flopping comes as Conyers is resting comfortably in a Detroit hospital, apparently overtaken by a stress-related malady.
And Conyers’ hospital admission comes as one of his accusers, former staffer Monica Brown, spoke publicly about the gory details of her harassment claim.
On “Today” on Thursday, Brown said, the New York Daily News noted: “All I want from the congressman is for him to acknowledge what he did and apologize … for calling me a liar. … [Conyers] violated my body [and] pointed to [the] genital areas of his body and asked me to touch him. I didn’t know what to do. I didn’t want to lose my job, I didn’t want to upset him. Also, he asked me to find other people that would satisfy him.”
House Majority Leader Paul Ryan said shortly after Brown’s remarks that Conyers ought to resign — and “immediately.”
Now, Pelosi’s on board with the idea.
“I pray for Congressman Conyers and his family and wish them well,” she said, during a press gathering, Politico reported. “However, Congressman Conyers should resign.”
Wait for it, wait for it. Now come all the cries of hypocrisy.
