PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Maine’s two major electric utilities have winnowed the number of power outages about 70,000 as they aim to restore service to virtually all customers by Saturday evening.
Central Maine Power was reporting about 60,500 outages and Emera Maine about 9,500 outages Friday afternoon.
More than half of Maine’s population was in the dark at the peak of power outages after a fall storm whacked Maine, knocking down trees and power lines.
Hundreds of utility crews from across the U.S. and Canada are in Maine to help with the massive power restoration effort. All told, more than 2,000 utility workers are on the job.
