CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - A former Casper police officer pleaded guilty to felony child abuse and misdemeanor child endangerment charges for allegations that she mistreated her two adopted children.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports that Laura Starnes-Wells entered her plea Tuesday afternoon. If the sentencing judge accepts the terms of her plea deal, she will serve one to five years of supervised probation.

Starnes-Wells acknowledged in court that she inflicted mental injuries on one of her children by acting recklessly. She also acknowledged negligently endangering the health of the other child.

Investigators say that in May 2016, one of the children came to school with a black eye and swollen lip and told school officials Starnes-Wells beat her.

Starnes-Wells was placed on administrative leave in November 2016 when the department became aware of the investigation.
