President Trump pushed back Tuesday against a published report that his wife Melania didn’t want her role as first lady.

“Melania, our great and very hard working First Lady, who truly loves what she is doing, always thought that ’if you run, you will win,’ ” Mr. Trump tweeted. “She would tell everyone that, ’no doubt, he will win.’ I also felt I would win (or I would not have run) - and Country is doing great!”

Vanity Fair published a report Sunday saying Mrs. Trump told an unnamed longtime friend that she didn’t want to be first lady “come hell or high water.”

The first lady’s office slammed the report, saying Mrs. Trump “is honored by her role.”

“Once again part of the liberal media, this time Vanity Fair, has written a story riddled with unnamed sources and false assertions,” a spokeswoman for the First Lady said. “As a magazine tailored to women, it is shameful that they continue to write salacious and false stories meant to demean Mrs. Trump, rather than focus on her positive work as first lady as a supportive wife and mother.”

In an annual tradition, Mrs. Trump unveiled the holiday decorations at the White House on Monday, including the 19-foot-tall Christmas tree in the blue room and the traditional gingerbread White House replica.

“The decorations are up! @WhiteHouse is ready to celebrate! Wishing you a Merry Christmas & joyous holiday season!” the first lady tweeted.

She also said she had a “wonderful visit” with children of military personnel who are stationed at Joint Base Andrews.
