SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - The city of Spokane is observing a Transgender Day of Remembrance, honoring the transgender lives lost to violence across the nation.

KREM-TV says the event is being observed Monday.

Ian Sullivan is the director of the Odyssey Youth Center in Spokane, a place for LGBTQ youth to relax. He says a city day of remembrance is a step in the right direction for Spokane.
