The 118th showdown between Army and Navy on the football field will include a stylish tribute to one of America’s iconic flight teams — the Blue Angels.
The U.S. Naval Academy and Under Armour unveiled specialty Blue Angel uniforms Monday that the Midshipmen (6-5) will wear against the Black Knights (8-3) on Dec. 9 in Philadelphia.
A promotional video for the annual service-academies clash featured the squadron’s insignia on the Navy uniform’s right shoulder, a U.S. flag on the its left, and F/A-18 Hornets flying in formation on the helmet.
“This tribute to the Blue Angels reflects the enthusiastic pride and appreciation we have for the Navy’s premier flying team and the motivation they convey to Navy football and the fleet at large,” Navy Athletic Director Chet Gladchuk said in a press release, Military.com reported.
Army, which snapped a 14-game losing streak to its rival last year, has yet to release a 2017 uniform with sponsor Nike.
“Our partnership with the United States Naval Academy has afforded us the opportunity to tell some incredible stories through our specialty uniform designs and we hope, in some way, that the special moments we create on behalf of the Academy manifest the gratitude we feel,” said Adam Clement, Under Armour’s Senior Creative Director of Team Sports.
The Blue Angels have thrilled over 500 million spectators at air shows since the team’s inception in 1946.
This year’s contest between the two teams will take place at Lincoln Financial Field, home of the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles.
