President Trump said Sunday that his presidency is succeeding despite the Democrats’ constant “phony” allegations about Russian interference in the 2016 election.

“Since the first day I took office, all you hear is the phony Democrat excuse for losing the election, Russia, Russia, Russia,” Mr. Trump tweeted. “Despite this I have the economy booming and have possibly done more than any 10 month President. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Mr. Trump returned to Washington Sunday night from his Mar-a-Lago resort in West Palm Beach, Florida, where he spent the Thanksgiving holiday with family.

Special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation is expected soon to touch on one of Mr. Trump’s closest confidants, White House communications director Hope Hicks. The New York Daily News reported that the special counsel’s lawyers plan to sit down with Ms. Hicks before week’s end to find out what she might know about possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow.

Last week, lawyers for former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn reportedly severed communications with Mr. Trump’s lawyers about the Trump-Russia investigation. The move was seen as a possible indication that Mr. Flynn is cooperating with the special counsel’s investigation.

“If you’re dead to rights, flipping on others and cooperating with the prosecution is the only sane and rational move,” said former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara on Twitter. “Also, prosecutors accept cooperation only if you can provide ’substantial assistance.’ Higher up in the food chain.”
