JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A pair of giraffes at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens has a new member of the family: a newborn baby calf, all 6 feet 4 inches and 191 pounds of him.
The Times-Union reports the male calf, which has not yet been named, was born early Sunday morning.
Zookeepers arrived that day to find the baby standing and nursing. It joined the herd of other giraffes.
The calf is the same height at birth as his brother Newton, born in June 2016.
After a few days in the side yard of the giraffe exhibit, the calf and mother Naomi joined the rest of the nine-member herd on public exhibit Wednesday afternoon.
The calf is the 40th giraffe born at the zoo.
