ASHBURN — The Washington Redskins added four players to their roster Tuesday after four other players were placed on injured reserve.
The Redskins placed guard Shawn Lauvao, center Spencer Long, wide receiver Terrelle Pryor and running back Chris Thompson on IR. Placing Lauvao and Long, in particular, on the list was seen as somewhat as a surprise.
In Lauvao’s case, the left guard suffered a stinger injury in Sunday’s loss to the New Orleans Saints. He originally suffered a stinger injury in Week 8 against the Dallas Cowboys, but it is unclear if his new injury is related to the last one, which caused him to miss a game.
Coach Jay Gruden said Long, meanwhile, needs surgery for his quad tendon. Long has been bothered by quad tendonitis and missed three of the last four games, including the Saints game.
The moves with Thompson and Pryor are not surprising. Thompson, of course, broke his fibula against the Saints and needs surgery. Pryor, who had been dealing with an ankle injury, saw a specialist Monday and underwent surgery later in the day.
To replace the four players, the Redskins signed linebacker Pete Robertson and running back LeShun Daniels off their practice squad.
They also signed defensive lineman A.J. Francis, who has had multiple stints with the Redskins. Francis was released Oct. 25 in order to re-sign guard Tyler Catalina after only six days. Francis will add defensive line depth with Terrell McClain nursing a toe injury.
Center Demetrius Rhaney was signed, as well, for offensive line depth.
