SAN DIEGO (AP) - San Diego International Airport officials say they do not expect flights coming in and out of the airport will be affected as they work on repaving the facility’s only runway.
The San Diego Union-Tribune reported Monday that crews began tearing up sections of the runway at the beginning of the month.
Officials say the repaving project will cost the airport $22.8 million and the work will last roughly a year.
The runway will be close from midnight to 5 a.m. daily for the work.
Officials say airlines and cargo carriers have adjusted their schedules around the construction times.
Flights with unexpected delays that require them land after midnight can be diverted to a nearby airport such as Los Angeles or Ontario.
