Former Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Donna Brazile said Tuesday that sexual harassment cannot be tolerated on either side of the political aisle.
“The Senate will investigation the allegations made against Mr. Franken, and I hope the people of Alabama reject Roy Moore,” Ms. Brazile said on Fox Business.
Ms. Brazile said she wanted to see both men face the consequences of their actions, although acknowledged those consequences may be different depending on the outcome of further inquiries.
Both Sen. Al Franken, Minnesota Democrat, and former Alabama Chief Justice and Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore have had allegations of sexual harassment made against them.
In the case of Mr. Moore, some of his accusers say they were minors at the time he pursued physical relationships with them.
“I hope the American people understand that sexual harassment is pervasive,” she said. “It’s a persistent problem. We need to get rid of it. We need to understand it more.”
The former DNC chairwoman has gained renewed national attention for her book describing former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s take over of the party prior to her winning the nomination.
Ms. Brazile served as interim DNC chair in the summer of 2016 and realized the extent of the party’s financial problems, which Mrs. Clinton was helping resolve in exchange for management control.
