BOSTON (AP) - Boston’s Christmas tree is arriving in the city with a police escort.
The Boston Parks and Recreation Department says the city’s official 2017 Christmas tree is scheduled to arrive in Boston Tuesday morning.
Nova Scotia donates a tree to Boston each year as a token of thanks for relief efforts undertaken by Bostonians after a munitions ship exploded in Halifax Harbor in 1917, killing or injuring thousands of people.
The parks department says the 53-foot white spruce will be escorted by the Boston Police Department from Billerica and will weave through downtown before entering Boston Common.
Democratic Boston Mayor Marty Walsh says it’s exciting to carry on a great tradition. He says the tree brings joy to many people.
A tree lighting ceremony is planned for Nov. 30.
