OGDEN, Utah (AP) - The Utah day care worker who was convicted of killing an 8-month-old boy in 2014 was sentenced to five years to life in a state prison.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports the maximum sentence for 36-year-old Tisha Lynn Morley was handed down in an Ogden courtroom on Wednesday after a jury convicted her of first-degree felony child abuse homicide in May.

Lincoln Penland died in the hospital after his skull was fractured, both arms were broken, and his brain and spine were injured while at Morley’s in-home day care in Roy. Prosecutors say Morley grabbed the infant by his arms and slammed him on a changing table.

Morley apologized in court and asked for leniency. She says she made a “neglectful and careless mistake.”
