CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - Philanthropist Foster Friess says he’s a “huge fan” of Wyoming U.S. Sen. John Barrasso but might run against him to give voters another choice next year.
Friess tells the Casper Star-Tribune he hadn’t considered running until former Donald Trump adviser Steve Bannon encouraged him. Friess and Barrasso are both Republicans.
Friess says recent incidents have moved him closer to running, including how the U.S. isn’t arming Kurdish forces in Iraq. Friess calls that a betrayal after Iraqi Kurds fought the Islamic State group.
Friess is worth several hundred million dollars, lives in Jackson and has donated significantly to conservative Christian causes. Friess says he’s uninterested in attacking Barrasso and would run to offer voters two good options.
Blackwater security company founder Erik Prince also is considering running against Barrasso.
