Powerful winds gusting between 30 and 45 mph are causing more power outages in Maine.

Central Maine Power reported that more than 5,000 homes and businesses were in the dark Sunday afternoon. Emera Maine reported several hundred power outages, as well.

Meteorologist Eric Sinsabaugh from the National Weather Service said a gust of 51 mph was recorded Sunday afternoon in Jackman. He said gusts should slow down overnight.

He said the current gusts are nothing compared to the Oct. 30 storm that knocked out power for more than half of the state’s residents.
