Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore said Thursday he won’t stop fighting for what he believes in until “they put me in the ground” and doubled down on his calls for Mitch McConnell to be ousted as Senate Majority Leader.
Speaking in Birmingham, Mr. Moore reiterated that the allegations of sexual misconduct that have been leveled against him by women are false, and said he hopes to refocus his race against Democrat Doug Jones back onto policy issues.
He then immediately shifted his attention to Mr. McConnell, saying the Kentucky Republican and his cronies are trying to “steal this election from the people of Alabama and they will not stand for it.”
Mr. McConnell has called on Mr. Moore to drop out of the race to fill Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ old seat in the aftermath of the sexual misconduct accusations.
“I want to tell you who needs to step down — that’s Mitch McConnell,” Mr. Moore said, sparking applause from his supporters. “There have been comments about me taking a stand, yes I have taken a stand in the past, I will take a stand in the future and I will quit standing when they lay me in that box and they put me in the ground.”
